Stable air traffic in April – growth so far this year

In April, 4,295,000 passengers used Avinor’s airports. This represents a marginal increase compared with the same month last year, and overall traffic is unchanged compared with April 2025. So far this year, 16.2 million passengers have travelled via Avinor’s airports, an increase of three percent compared with the same period last year.

Aircraft movements

In April, there were a total of 52,838 commercial aircraft movements at Avinor’s airports, an increase of one percent compared with the same month last year. The increase is primarily driven by domestic traffic, where the number of movements rose by two percent. At the same time, international traffic declined by three percent.

So far this year, activity levels remain stable, with 197,768 commercial aircraft movements, roughly at the same level as in 2025.

Variations between airports

Oslo Airport recorded 2.18 million passengers in April, a decrease of one percent compared with last year. Nevertheless, traffic at the country’s largest airport is up two percent so far this year. Bergen Airport Flesland stands out with six percent growth in April, while Stavanger Airport recorded a slight increase of one percent.

Trondheim and Tromsø recorded somewhat lower traffic in April than last year, while traffic at the regional airports increased slightly overall. Taken together, developments across several airports contribute to overall growth for Avinor in 2026, despite some variation from month to month.

Fly drones safely and legally

In April, 2,685 drone flight plans were registered. This is an increase of 3 percent compared with April last year.

– With better weather and longer daylight hours, more people are flying drones. It is positive that many choose to fly legally and register their flight plans. At the same time, there are still many flights in restricted zones around airports, so I would like to encourage everyone to operate drones only where it is safe and permitted, says Nikola Tufekcic, Head of Drones at Avinor.
